Designated on FEMA NFIP maps, either the Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM)
or the Flood Boundary Floodway Map (FBFM), as the area of a watercourse plus
the adjacent overbank floodplain that should not be encroached upon in
order to allow the discharge of the base flood. Any activity in the floodway
must comply with the NFIP and local regulations.
